June 30, 1936

It was on June 30, 1936 that the Emperor of Abyssinia (Ethiopia) Haile Selassie, asked the League of Nations for help, after Italy invaded his country. The flag of Ethiopia at the time showed "the Lion of Judah": which is a lion carrying a cross.

There was no military enforcement of the subsequent injunction against Italy.
