June 17, 1898

Maurits Cornelis Escher (June 17, 1898 to March 27, 1972), is better known as M. C. Escher and his drawings are far more diverse and fascinating than the few which you see constantly reproduced.

Escher was Dutch, and his art includes several renditions of Le Chat Blanc, which date to 1919. You can see them by searching at Google images.
