The detective died, April 30, 2000; of natural causes, at the age of 62. According to his obituary, written by Douglas Martin: Mr. Speriglio, the director of Nick Harris Detectives Inc., unabashedly modeled himself on the fictional gumshoes Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe and was inspired to become a private eye by the television series "Peter Gunn."

Milo A. Speriglio was an Los Angeles private investigator whose own thirst for publicity was well-known among angelenos. They were not surprised to find he showed up at the crime scene where Nicole Simpson was found. Speriglio had a gift for publicity, in addition to being a hard working detective for four decades. Even as a teenager his photo appeared in a local paper when a panther was in the news, and Speriglio decided to hunt for it. The photo showed the teenager with a baseball bat in hand.

He is known to a wider audience too, though, because Mr. Speriglio would not let the suicide verdict pronounced on Marilyn Monroe, go unchallenged. He offered a $10,000 reward for her red diary. And he wrote a number of books about the case:

Marilyn Monroe: Murder Cover Up (1982)
The Marilyn Conspiracy (1986)
Crypt 33: The Saga of Marilyn Monroe - The Final Word, (1993 ).
